1. Identify Your Triggers

If you can’t identify the specific reason why you may feel burnt out, a good way is to keep a stress journal with you at all times, that way you can list any causes of stress you may face in your workplace, narrowing down until you find the main cause.

  • 1- Extremes of activity, ironically having either an overly monotonous or chaotic workplace both result in the employee needing a constant stream of energy to remain focused, which will eventually run out, leading to a burnout.
  • 2- You might have what’s called a work-life imbalance, which means the way your time is divided between your job, personal life and so on, isn’t well balanced.
  • 3- A high workload is one of the main causes for job burnout, when you feel that you’re not going to finish the job on time, your brain instinctively freezes and refuses to continue because you’re probably too busy panicking.
  • 4- Sometimes you might feel like you have too little control over your work. Do you always tell yourself that you “have no choice”?

2.Break Down Big Tasks Into Smaller Ones

Never forget to congratulate yourself on finishing these small jobs, that way you won’t focus on the big task but enjoy the small victories you gain along the way.

By breaking down big tasks into smaller ones, you avoid judging the task as hard or easy, but rather focus only on the steps you need to take in order to complete it. When you get into the habit of doing this, you start to face situations with openness and patience, rather than judgment.

Only by keeping an open mind can you withstand anything your job throws at you, never let an unrewarding job affect your mental health.

3.Finding A Release

Keep in mind that burnout, just like stress, can accumulate and eventually explode! Figuratively of course. You will have negative emotions piling up inside you such as anger, which may alienate you from social life, think about anyone who’s always criticising everything that’s happening around them, would you want to interact with them?

Try to find a hobby to keep your mind off of what you’re going through, it doesn’t need to be a super time consuming one, even 15 to 20 minutes a day is enough.

4.Exercising

A great way to de-stress is to exercise, working out regularly is perhaps one of the best ways you can relax your body and mind, when you exercise you get into a better mood, which helps you be adequately equipped in facing tough situations.

Try to avoid being like most people who try to deal with job burnout using bad habits such as binge eating comfort food or watching TV to escape from responsibilities, those are activities that rarely cure burnout.

5.Taking a vacation

If all else fails, you may need a complete and total cut-off from work, known by mainstream definition as: A vacation!

Taking a vacation, even an unpaid one, will work wonders for your mental state, helping you re-evaluate your needs and wants, just make sure to stay as far away from work as possible.

When asking for a vacation, avoid being subjective in your request, simply point out how you’re feeling unable to continue working on the task, and that you’ll be better able to continue working after the vacation.

Job burnout is always an ever present demon we have to deal with when doing any kind of work, it doesn’t differentiate between CEO or employee, the way to fight it is to always have an open mind when doing your tasks! Never let a particularly nasty task get in the way of your mental well-being.
